Our Mini- Vacation
We're on spring break!!! Finally! It feels so good to have some time away from school and to regroup while hanging out with my favorite people. We packed up and headed out of town on Saturday morning. We were headed to Canton to visit with some friends, swim, visit the Toledo zoo, swim, stay in a hotel, swim, visit Ikea, swim and then head to my sister's house for Julia's birthday.
The girls started break slowly and laid around on Friday morning in their pajamas while watching TV. It felt so good to have a slow morning. We're so used to rushing through our morning ritual, that it felt freeing to not worry about the time on the clock and to just enjoy the moment.
We made it to the hotel and within 20 minutes, we were swimming in the pool. I think Abby turns into a fish when she hits the water. She wanted to spend all her time in the pool. When we got back to the room she quickly set up her Polly Pockets and built a beautiful town.
Grace was content to sit with her Miss Pattycake video and sing along with all the songs. I love listening to her sing. It's so cute!
On Sunday we headed off to our old church where my dad was the pastor when I was growing up. It was fun to see several old friends and to worship with them all again. Afterwards we headed over to the Zomermaands for dinner and fun. We love this family! We spent the afternoon laughing, eating, and playing with American Girl dolls.
Abby just finished up her swimming lessons at school before spring break so she was anxious to show us all of her new moves. She loved diving, jumping and swimming through the water. She a great swimmer!
This smile didn't leave her face all weekend. She was so happy!
Each morning the girls would lay together in the bed and watch TV. They thought they were so cool and they loved every minute of it. I love watching them snuggle together.
We headed to the Toledo Zoo on Monday morning. It was a cool day so we put on several layers to keep warm. We had a great time. The cooler weather made the animals more active and they were so interesting to watch. We saw everything from polar bears to gorillas, to giraffes and elephants.
The were statues of the animals all over the zoo and Abby wanted her picture taken with each one. Silly girl!
There was a baby giraffe there and she was so active and super cute. Grace kept giggling at her.
There was an area set up by "Little People" meant for the kids to play on. It was fantastic! There were climbing walls, bridges, slides and even tunnels. The girls ran and ran and ran. It was a perfect spot to get out a little energy.
In this area were some little tables decorated with zoo animals. We used them to eat our lunch. Between bites the girls would get up and chase the birds away while dancing and laughing. It was hard to focus on the food. Haha!
