Pumpkin Fest Fun
Last night Abby had a playdate with her friend Faith. We took her home with us from school and after picking up Grace, we quickly ate up our dinner and headed downtown. Pumpkin Fest was going on! The girls were excited (and I was too!).
Don't you love the princess costumes the girls are wearing? They were putting on a play right before I called them for dinner and didn't have time to change. It's sure fun to eat with the princesses!
Our first activity was the pumpkin run. The kids get to run through the park and pick up pumpkins. They also each get a bag of candy. Grace ran with the 5 and under crowd and giggled a lot. She ran to the first pumpkin she saw and giggled again. Silly girl!
Then we headed over to the 10 and under crowd. These two were so funny! They staked out the ones they wanted and tried to wait patiently for the whistle. Then they were off and each ran super fast to the perfect pumpkin. They were allowed to bring 2 pumpkins home so then they ran again.
Our downtown is decorated every where you look with small areas set up with pumpkin scenes and scarecrows. I laughed when I took this picture because of the way the girls are sitting. They both posed themselves and I think they're trying to be so grown up.
My perfect little pumpkin!
The local bank was sponsoring pumpkin painting. We walked through the bank to pick out a HUGE pumpkin and then headed outside to paint. Faith was done pretty quickly, but Abby took lots of time and drew a very nice face on hers. There were also stickers and markers available and Abby's creative side came out. It turned out so cute and is now decorating our front porch.
Each year they also have the local children's farm come out so the kids can experience the animals. Grace loved it!!! She ran after the goats and named each animal and the noise each one makes. She screamed and screamed when it was time to leave. Yes, we were that family, the one with the loud child!
These 2 fell in love with the little chicks. They spent most of their night holding them and chasing them around the hay bales. I love their smiles!!!
After washing hands and hand sanitizing over and over again, we headed to the food carts!! They got snow cones and cotton candy. Yep, it was a night just full of sugar. I headed over to the kettle corn. Yum!
There was one spot where the girls were able to decorate lunch bags that the girl scouts will fill with food and deliver to needy families. It was so great to hear my 2 girls talk about how excited they were to create these bags and help those families. There was no complaining that they couldn't keep the bags and no whining either. They both did a great job and then thanked the girls scouts. Proud mama moment!
